Over 60 delegates from 10 African countries (Kenya, Botswana, Malawi, Zambia, Nigeria, Ghana, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Niger and Uganda) and the UK assembled in Nairobi, Kenya for the third edition of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation (RECIRCULATE Workpackage 1) capacity building training event.
Dr Nicholas Ozor, Executive Director, African Technology Policy Studies Network (ATPS), welcomed visitors to Nairobi with the local greeting “karibu” and told those present that ATPS were happy to act as the coordinating host organisation for the workshop.
Prof. Kirk Semple (Lancaster University) thanked all delegates for giving their time to participate in the event and also RECIRCULATE Advisory board members Prof. Esi Awuah (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana), Prof. Jimmy Adegoke (University of Missouri, Kansas City, USA) and later Prof. Carolyn Thoruwa (Kenyatta University, Kenya).
Workpackage 1 UK-lead Prof. Nigel Lockett (University of Strathclyde) introduced the workshop attendees to the Opportunity Business Model, before setting the first group working task to develop business pitches.
Over four days the delegates will work together to address the key challenges faced by entrepreneurs in Africa in the context of the circular water economy and UN Sustainable Development Goals, leading to applications to carry out further bespoke capacity building activities in Lancaster or Africa later in 2020.
